5 AUGUST 2026: 1-month post-delivery update

By God’s grace, it has been one month since Baby Qoheleth Maximus Miguel was prematurely born, and the LORD has been faithfully sustaining Q thus far! As he reaches this major milestone, we offer some updates on his medical condition and needs, as well as the fundraising activities that have been and are being organized to help ease the financial burden of his prolonged stay at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of St. Luke’s Medical Center (SLMC) QC.

Health updates:
Q recently underwent a cranial ultrasound due to a Grade I intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) that he experienced when he was delivered. His doctors have advised that the results show nothing concerning, and that there is an improvement in his brain. He experiences oxygen desaturation when he exerts effort to expel waste, which also causes his stomach to be enlarged at times. Despite this, Q is also showing signs of breathing better on his own, and his doctors are trying to wean him by reducing the oxygen requirements. To date, he has now reached 800 grams, a 175g increase from his birth weight.

Growing financial need:
In all these, we are deeply grateful for the continuous financial support that has come in, which has so far covered a big percentage of the running bill required for Q’s specialized care. With the current estimate of Php 7.5 million needed to cover Q’s NICU stay until late October, the Miguel family has so far received a total of Php 1,021,105.82 through direct donations and fund-raising efforts to date. We continue to seek your support as it is still a long journey ahead, LORD-willing, until Q’s expected NICU discharge date.

As shared in our previous update, since there is no NICU charity ward at SLMC nor can he be moved to another hospital until he is more stable, we are currently working on getting Qoheleth some financial aid from various government offices, and are reaching out within the hospital’s system for other means possible to reduce the mounting bill.

Fund-raising efforts:
Our two recently concluded fund-raising efforts include an acoustic livestream concert organized by members of Trinity Bible Church San Pablo, and a pop-up market and busking event at The Corner House San Juan — which have raised over Php 50,000 combined. We are currently gearing up for our next fund-raising activities: a badminton fundraiser series, a “Helping your child to learn and love Filipino” webinar, and a bake sale. Garage sale live-selling and a concert for-a-cause, among others, are in the pipeline as well. More details on these can be found on our ALL for Q fundraiser pages on Facebook and Instagram.

Through every step of this journey, we continue to place our trust in our sovereign Lord, who graciously gave Qoheleth life, faithfully sustains him each day, and who has ordained all things for the good of His people and the glory of His name.
We humbly ask for your continued support, and thank you for every act of giving extended to Q and the Miguels thus far. These have all been a tangible reminder of God's goodness and grace.
Soli Deo Gloria!

15 JULY 2026: 10th day post-delivery update
From the bottom of our hearts, we’d like to thank everyone who has been supporting this fundraising campaign whether it be through praying, giving, or sharing about baby Qoheleth and his fight to stay alive.

While Van was discharged last July 9, Q continues to battle daily at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of St. Luke’s Medical Center QC, where he continues to receive specialized care. He was intubated due to an issue with his lungs, a direct effect of the depleted amniotic fluid while he was still inside his mother’s womb. Despite this, by God’s grace, Q was extubated last July 14 and is currently able to breathe through nasal support. Doctors have also noted his digestive system has improved, and he has been able to tolerate breastmilk better in the last two days. Antibiotics will continue to be administered to protect him from a lung infection.

Growing financial need
Given the severity of the situation surrounding Q’s extremely premature delivery, and the additional procedures and medicines being administered to keep him alive, the estimates for the financial needs of the Miguel family have greatly increased. As of this writing, Q’s NICU bill is at ₱524,620.66. This amount has already factored in the initial payments necessary to discharge Van and keep Q under NICU care on his first few days. The Miguels will make another partial payment, 50% of Q’s running bill, this Thursday, July 15 — which can still be covered by the current pool of donations the Miguels have so far received. However, with this partial payment, the donation pool will be greatly diminished. Q’s daily average bill is at Php 75,000 (USD1250), and with Q expected to remain, LORD-willing, in the NICU for continued care until late October, the total bill could reach roughly Php 7.5 Million (USD 125,000).

Current efforts to support medical costs
To exhaust all options to lower costs and/or find support, we have called St. Luke’s and learned that they accept Guarantee Letters (GLs), which are pledges from government institutions to cover a percentage of patients' bills as financial aid. We are currently looking for ways to reach these institutions and apply the Miguels for aid.

We have also inquired regarding having Baby Qoheleth changed to “charity” status, but the hospital has clarified that the NICU has no charity ward, and any requests for charity status must be applied for before the patient is admitted to St. Luke’s. Currently we are still seeking out other alternatives for aid within the hospital’s system.

In recent days, we, as well as other churchmates and friends of the Miguels, have initiated fund-raising efforts to raise awareness and support. Fundraising concerts, garage sales, livestreaming and live-selling of new and preloved items are being organized and rolled out to sustain support for Q and the Miguels. For more information on these, we have put up an Instagram account: instagram.com/allforqfundraiser.

In all of these, we continue to put our trust in the sovereign LORD who has given Qoheleth life, and continues to sustain him – and who has ordained all these events for the good of His people, and for His glory. We humbly ask for your prayers and support, and are immensely blessed by every act of kindness and generosity given by brethren, friends, and strangers alike. Soli Deo Gloria!
